night of silence
Possibly my favorite Advent Carol of all time, composed by Daniel Kantor (1981). This performance by the San Diego Men's Chorus. Stunning in its simplicity. Nearly unimprovable. Nothing more to say. Please listen.
Much love to all this Christmas season.
Cold are the people, Winter of life.
We tremble in shadows this cold endless night.
Frozen in the snow lie roses sleeping.
Flowers that will echo the sunrise.
Fire of hope is our only warmth.
Weary, its flame will be dying soon.
Spirit among us, Shine like the star.
Your light that guides shepherds and kings from afar.
Shimmer in the sky so empty, lonely-
Rising in the warmth of your Son's love.
Star unknowing of night and day, Spirit we wait for your loving Son.

Many thanks - truly lovely in its simplicity. This is the time of year for tears and joy and this has given me both. buon natale di Roma.
Beautiful - brought tears to my eyes.
As a young child my hearing declined until, at age 6, I was deaf. I had just begun learning to sign when surgery restored my hearing. I still remember the silence, the fear, the loneliness, the despair - mostly the fear. Whenever I see someone signing it brings all those memories back... 50 years later.
Thanks for posting this amazing performance.
