Another birthday, and a tumultous year, and yet I haven't given up yet. I still enjoy the beauty of the sunrise, and the cool summer evenings. I still dream.
Inspiration today from Hildegarde Knef and her timeless "Für mich solls Rote Rosen regnen", which translates as "For me, it shall rain red roses".
Thank you all for your wonderful Birthday wishes. For each of you, may it rain red roses.
Translated into English:
At 16, I silently said, I want,
want greatness, want to win, want happiness, never lying.
At 16, I silently said, I want,
want everything....or nothing.
For me, shall it rain red roses,
I shall all wonders encounter.
The world should rearrange itself,
and its worries keep to itself.
And later, I still said, I´d like,
to understand, see much, experience, preserve,
and later, I still said, I´d like,
not alone to be -- yet free to be.
For me, shall it rain red roses,
I shall all wonders encounter.
Fortune shall gently behave,
and shall my fate, with love direct.
And today, I silently say, I should,
yield, make do - I cannot resign myself,
cannot make do, want still to win,
want everything....or nothing.
For me, shall it rain red roses,
I shall completely new wonders encounter.
To unfold myself anew, far from the old,
and of what´s expected, most to hold.
I wish.. I wish..

Jeff:
I'm sorry that I missed your birthday on Tuesday! I hope you spent it having fun.
An American blogger who knows Hildegard Knef is a rarity. I remember reading her memoir 'The Gift Horse' many years ago.
