A stunning unanimous decision from the Seven Justices of the Iowa Supreme Court:
"We are firmly convinced the exclusion of gay and lesbian people from the institution of civil marriage does not substantially further any important governmental objective," the Supreme Court wrote in its decision.
"The Legislature has excluded a historically disfavored class of persons from a supremely important civil institution without a constitutionally sufficient justification."
This brilliant logic seems so far to completely elude the Cowardly Lions of the California Supreme Court. In the Golden State, the strong indication is that your inalienable rights are in fact subject to majority whim and may be amended at any time.
Kudos to each and every man woman and child in Iowa. You are all equal in the eyes of your state.
Maybe one day California will catch up.
